I have called on Yuan Yang to distance herself from Labour Party policy on housing and law and order, following Sir Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves’s pledge to mandate housing development to local authorities, and release prisoners early.
Only days after the election, Keir Starmer and the Labour Party are committing to mandating housing development on local authorities, including on green belt areas.
I’ve lived in Earley and Woodley for 40 years, and represented the constituents on Wokingham Borough Council for 16, and know the strength of feeling the people of this area have on unsustainable development. I am calling on Yuan Yang to state whether she supports the Labour Party’s policies around mandated housing development in this constituency.
Labour and the Liberal Democrats have done nothing to halt the development during their coalition of convenience in Wokingham Borough Council.
I trust that Yuan Yang can do the right thing and stand up for the people of Earley and Woodley and tell her leader what the people of this constituency feel about unsustainable development and the need to protect our countryside.
It is also vital that Yang stands up to the Labour Government - and pledges not to support the dilution of law and order in this constituency. We have huge problems with anti-social behaviour in the area - an issue I pledged to combat were I elected to Parliament. Now that Yuan Yang has taken her place in Parliament, I trust that she will stand up against her Government’s plans to release convicted criminals back onto our streets.
