Labour have delayed the build of a new state-of-the-art Royal Berkshire Hospital until 2035 at the earliest. This is despite Yuan Yang’s promises and assurances to residents during the general election campaign. She said that she had spoken to Rachel Reeves and that the new hospital would be built during the next parliament after Labour took office. We now have confirmation that the new hospital will be delayed by a decade.
It is clear this is not just another Labour broken promise. This is a complete betrayal of residents, the Hospital Trust, and our local communities.
Conservatives will continue to support the NHS Trust and Building Berkshire Better. We will continue to campaign in the interests of residents for a new state-of-the-art Royal Berkshire Hospital.
Now I know why our Labour MP wouldn’t answer my recent questions about their hospital programme review. She insisted that the Royal Berkshire Hospital rebuild wasn’t cancelled. But this decision to defer it to at least three governments in the future was clearly something that she didn’t want to own up to.
