I am pleased to see the announcement of new government funding for road repairs totalling £8.3bn. This new funding will total £13.095m in Wokingham Borough and £7.262m in Reading over the next ten years. This will mean £418k extra money for roads in Wokingham Borough for each of the next two years and £232k for Reading Borough.
As you may know, when I was Executive member for Highways and Transport in Wokingham Borough, I was very keen to make sure road maintenance was improved and our residential roads were resurfaced, I quadrupled road maintenance spend during my time in control. When the Lib Dems took over the council they froze road maintenance, so I am pleased to see the government step in and do their job for them.
This funding will greatly improve the day-to-day lives of residents – ensuring shorter, faster and smoother journeys.
