I welcomed Gillian Keegan, the Secretary of State for Education, to Earley and Woodley constituency to meet some apprentices from Virgin O2 and I learned how to splice a fibre optic cable - incredibly fiddly and I would need stronger glasses to be a telecoms engineer!
They were a really nice group of people and I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the apprentices and the opportunities the new apprentice schemes had given them. The UK is one of a handful of countries where you can do an apprenticeship when you are older.
One of the apprentices told me that they had been working as a Barista in London, they said that the scheme in the UK meant they got the opportunity which they wouldn't get in Italy because of the ability to join the scheme years after leaving school.
